Man. Married. Minister. Matthew. This is what the bio on my Twitter page says, but I am much more than that. Adding another M to the list I was born and raised in Michigan, by my loving parents Ed and Jeanne. A few more M’s came along as I am the big brother to Melissa and Michael. Even in those early years I felt a call from God to serve Him. This came to a forefront as I was confirmed and so my confirmation verses are now the basis for everything I do, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:8-10
It was this call to do good works that led me to Concordia Ann Arbor and Concordia Seminary in Saint Louis, Missouri to pursue the calling into ministry. It was these verses that gave me assurance when I decided to go all the way to Washington for my year of vicarage. And finally, it was these verses that gave me strength to follow God’s will for my life and move to Washington in 2011 to become the Pastor of Resurrection.
God added another amazing gift by moving out here when I met my future wife, Melina (another M) and married her on May 11, 2013. With her by my side we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us and we trust he knows the plans for us. Plans to prosper us, give us hope and future in Him.
It is this same confidence I share for the church. God gives us amazing gifts to serve him with. We do this in many ways here at RLC and it is my desire to see these areas continue to grow. As we lift our hands in worship, we can give thanks for all he has done. There are other areas I am very passionate about and want to see grow here at RLC. Holding hands in small groups and opening our hands to the community are the good works God has prepared in advance for us to do. So please do not hesitate to talk to me or any of the other executive council members if you have ideas on how to use our hands for God.
In my free time I enjoy listening to music, laughing, hanging out with Melina, walking our dog Gatsby, scratching our cat Jasper, grilling, playing Cribbage, watching sports and going to the gym. If you would like to do any of these things with me please raise your hands and we will have a grand ol’ time.
Thanks for reading and God Bless,
Pastor Matt
